The place

Everything here finds its place facing the hills.

The Ybytyruzú range at dusk, the sky shifting from violet to orange over layered hills.

The landscape

The Ybytyruzú mountain range. The light transforms it until the very last moment.

The design

The bungalow's thatch-and-tacuara shell seen from below against the sky, with the glass arch at its base.
  • Earth
  • Stone
  • Bamboo
  • Straw
  • Wood

A design refuge conceived to inhabit the landscape. Architecture, materials and light are woven into the Ybytyruzú mountain range.

A stone basin set into the counter, beneath the thatched wall and tacuara structure.
The still pool at dusk, mirroring the hill like glass.

The build

The tacuara structure still open, curving over the wooden platform, the mountain range behind it.

The form took shape on site.

The tacuara was shaped and curved on site, worked directly in its final position. The roof was tied by hand, pole by pole, into a single continuous structure without one straight line.

A worker high on the structure, tying tacuara against the sky.
The full profile of the roof half-built: the tacuara structure arcing over the site, thatch covering the lower half.

The day

The view changes. The place remains.

The pool at midday, clear water and Cerro Amor cut against a blue sky.
Midday
Still water in the afternoon, mirroring Cerro Amor whole.
Afternoon
The same Cerro Amor at dusk, black against an orange sky, the water lit the same color.
